Anxiety

The term 'Anxiety' is a general term to describe various forms of nervous system activation.  Worries, nervousness, obsessive and intrusive thoughts, social fears, panic attacks, and phobias are all considered anxiety.

It is normal to experience anxiety in day to day life. Trying something for the first time, meeting someone new, writing exams, having a job interview, or doing a presentation typically create some degree of anxiety and this is normal. When, however, that nervousness or worry starts to impair a person's ability to sleep, eat, leave the house, go to school, or interact socially, help may be needed. I help my clients learn how to manage both the cognitive (recurring thoughts, catastrophizing, worries) and physiological (tension, panic, stomach aches) aspects of anxiety.
